HOW TO MAKE
  1. Create flags for both teams with Fabric Markers. Decorate them with team colors, names, symbols, and themes. Heat set color according to package instructions.
  2. With an adult, choose a large outdoor paved area that is clean, safe, and free from traffic. Use Chalk ‘n Roll and/or Giant Sidewalk Chalk to mark a big rectangular outdoor playing area.
  3. Draw a line horizontally across the midpoint of the field.
  4. Draw a "jail" area in one of the back corners on each side. Mark off a space for keeping score.
HOW TO PLAY
  1. Form two equal teams, each having a jail and a flag. One player on each team guards the flag, and one player on each team guards the jail. Guards must stand at least four steps away from what they are guarding.
  2. Players try to cross into the other team’s territory, capture the flag, and bring it back across the center line without being tagged. Record one point for each successful capture.
  3. Any player in the opposite team’s territory may be tagged by anyone on the opposite team. Tagged players must go to the other team’s jail and wait to be freed.
  4. To free a team member, a player must bring the teammate out of the jail area without being tagged by the jailer. If a player succeeds in helping a teammate escape, they are considered "safe" and are able to walk together back to their side without being tagged.
VARIATIONS
  • Increase the challenge--use more that one flag per team!
  • Substitute plastic flying discs or marker-decorated paper plates instead of flags. Players can sail discs to teammates to catch.
  • Create team uniforms by decorating T-shirts with Crayola Fabric Markers.
  • Mark the playing field with a Crayola Sidewalk Paint Sprayer or Super Brush™. Decorate it with a theme such as team names.
SAFETY
  • Close adult supervision is required to assure children’s safety.
  • Crayola Sidewalk Paints and Chalk are designed for use on concrete or asphalt sidewalks and driveways. Before use, test on a small, inconspicuous area (allow paint to dry completely). Wash off to make sure that paint and chalk do not stain surface.
  • DO NOT USE ON SURFACES LESS THAN 6 MONTHS OLD. DO NOT LEAVE PAINT ON SURFACE LONGER THAN 1 WEEK.
  • Safety guidelines recommend this art project as suitable for children age 4 years and older. Close adult supervision is required to ensure safety.
