With an adult, choose an outdoor paved area that is clean, safe, free from traffic, and is next to an empty wall. Use Chalk ‘n Roll to create a large rectangular court with a long edge next to the wall.
Use Giant Sidewalk Chalk to extend right and left boundaries directly up the wall on either side. Draw a line straight across the top of the wall as high as you can safely reach.
Create a box on the side for keeping score.
Players group in even teams, with a maximum of four players on each side, depending on space. Decide on how many points will end the game. Use paddles, one per player, if they are available. Heavy cardboard will also work. Or play with your hands.
One team serves first. Ball must hit wall, then can bounce only once before the other team must return the ball. It must hit the wall first. Any player on a team can try to return the ball. Players continue to volley back and forth until ball is called out.
A team earns a point when the ball is called out. A ball is out when the opponents fail to return the ball, when opponents hit a ball out of bounds, or when an opponent’s return fails to hit the wall first.
Game is over when the agreed-upon number of points is reached.
