A Flowerpot For Mom

A Flowerpot for Mom

Instructions for Flowerpot:

1. Protect your work surface with newspaper, plastic, or use a paper plate.

2. Set your clay pot upside down on your work surface.

3. Select colors to pour onto the pot.

4. Begin pouring paint from the edge of the base downward, allowing the paint to drip down (towards the top of the pot, which is facing downward).

5. Continue pouring various colors until you have covered the pot to your liking.

6. Allow to dry overnight. It may need more time depending on the thickness of the paint.

Instructions for Flowers - Bloom #1 (Rose):

1. Begin with a square piece of construction paper. We used 6"x6".

2. Place the square in front of you, positioned as a diamond.

3. Fold the left corner over to the right corner. Unfold and flip over so the fold opens towards your work surface and is vertical.

4. Take the right corner and fold inward and upward so the outside edge of the paper between the bottom and right corners is now against the center crease. The original outer right corner and the new outer right corner should form a horizontal line.

5. Repeat with the left corner. Your square should now resemble a kite.

6. Grab the right flap and fold outward and downward to align the top edge of the flap with the right edge of the kite. Repeat with the left and flip over.

7. Fold the bottom point up to meet the top point.

8. Grasp the point you just folded upward and fold back down so that the point hangs below the paper to create another fold.

9. Take the top right corner of the stem you just created and fold it down so the right edge meets the base. Repeat with left side and let go of these flaps.

10. Fold the outer right stem edge in to the middle crease. Doing so will open up the previous fold. Go ahead and squash the fold so the paper lies flat. Repeat with left side.

11. Fold the top corner of the flower down just a bit.

12. Flip over. The rose is complete! We created three roses.

Instructions for Flowers - Bloom #2 (Tulip):

1. Begin with a square piece of construction paper. We used 6"x6".

2. Place the square in front of you, positioned as a diamond.

3. Fold the bottom corner up to the top corner.

4. Then, fold the left corner over to the right corner.

5. Unfold the last fold.

6. Take the right side and fold it up to the left so the point being folded is aligned below the top point.

7. Repeat with the left side.

8. Flip over. The tulip is complete! We created two tulips.

9. Select chores to give mom for Mother's Day and write them onto the flowers with colored pencil.

Instructions for Stem:

1. Gather a colored pencil and green Model Magic.

2. Roll out a piece of Model Magic into a long worm shape.

3. Beginning near the point of the pencil, roll Model Magic around the pencil. Keeping the point free of Model Magic will allow us to stick it into the styrofoam later.

4. Add or remove Model Magic to cover the majority of the pencil.

5. Allow to dry.

6. Once dry, use a hot glue gun to glue the paper blooms to the stems at the opposite end of the point.

Instructions for Dirt:

1. Cover river stones with brown Model Magic to resemble dirt.

2. Allow to dry.

Put it all together:

1. Place glue around the outer edge of the styrofoam half circle and place inside the clay pot, as far down as possible.

2. Arrange the flowers and place them point first into the styrofoam.

3. Cover with river rocks and share with Mom!
