Ya hemos tomado varias medidas para hacer que nuestros productos y operaciones sean más sostenibles, centrando nuestros esfuerzos en iniciativas de energía renovable y embalaje.
- Energía renovable: La granja solar de 20 acres en nuestro campus de Crayola en Pensilvania proporciona la electricidad para hacer 1 mil millones de crayones, 700 millones de marcadores al año y 120 millones de frascos de pintura.
- Reducción de plásticos: En los últimos 10 años, hemos rediseñado nuestros marcadores de línea ancha para ahorrar aproximadamente 2 millones de libras de plástico en comparación con su diseño anterior.
- Embalaje: Fabricamos nuestros embalajes marker Classpack con cartón 100% reciclado. A partir de 2023, este empaque, junto con las fundas de crayones, se fabricará con cartón natural en lugar de cartón blanqueado, lo que reducirá las emisiones de C02e en un estimado de 100 toneladas métricas por año.
- Huella de carbono: Crayola, a través de nuestra empresa matriz Hallmark, se unió a la iniciativa Science Based Target, una colaboración de organizaciones globales sin fines de lucro, empresas y gobiernos del mundo que establecen objetivos para limitar el calentamiento global para que no exceda de 1,5 ° C. Para lograrlo, las organizaciones participantes deberán reducir significativamente las emisiones de carbono para 2030. Crayola se abastece de materias primas localmente y fabrica muchos crayones y marcadores cerca de donde se utilizan, lo que ayuda a reducir la huella de carbono. De hecho, Crayola ha reducido las emisiones de CO2e de las fuentes de energía directa e indirecta de nuestras instalaciones propiedad de la empresa en un 82% desde 2019, con inversiones en energía renovable, así como eficiencias en nuestro proceso de fabricación en EE. UU. (La energía directa incluye la gasolina, el petróleo, el gas natural, etc. utilizados, mientras que las emisiones indirectas se crean cuando se produce la energía, pero no donde se utiliza).
- Reforestación: La mayoría de los lápices de colores Crayola están hechos de madera que se reforesta en una granja de pinos de 8.288 hectáreas en Brasil. Cada año se plantan 300.000 plántulas para restaurar el bosque.

Because Crayola Marker components are securely sealed during the manufacturing process, we don't recommend trying to remove the marker nib and reservoir to recycle the barrel. The marker caps can be recycled at facilities that accept #5 plastic.

Throughout Crayola's history, several crayon colors have been retired, marking significant moments in the evolution of our vibrant palette.
1990
For the first time in Crayola history, eight colors were retired and placed in the Crayola Hall of Fame: blue gray, green blue, lemon yellow, maize, orange red, orange yellow, raw umber, and violet blue. Eight new colors were added: cerulean, dandelion, fuchsia, jungle green, royal purple, teal blue, vivid tangerine, and wild strawberry.2003
Celebrating a century of bringing color to the world, Crayola introduced four new colors named by Crayola fans! To make room for the new hues, we bid farewell to blizzard blue, magic mint, mulberry, and teal blue. The four new colors that were introduced are: inchworm, jazzberry jam, mango tango, and wild blue yonder. Kudos to our hue heroes - the consumers who voted in the "Save the Shade" campaign, ensuring burnt sienna stayed in the pack.2017
To mark National Crayon Day on March 31st, we announced Dandelion was leaving the pack. To honor this iconic color, we sent Dandelion on a retirement tour to his favorite places. For that reason, we do not recommend using Crayola modeling compounds, wet or dry, near an open flame, in an oven, microwave, or kiln. Exposure to high heat sources may cause drying out, cracking, and browning.
