Why

Rocking rocketry is possible with versatile Crayola Model Magic® Fusion™ modeling compound. Its glittery surface gives your imagination an extra blast-off.

Steps

  1. 1. Propulsion, guidance systems, thermal protection, and many other scientific considerations go into the design and construction of rocket ships used for space travel. Use your imagination as you create your rocket to the stars! These are just a few suggestions to get you started.
  2. 2. Cut a recycled cardboard tube the length of the main body of your space rocket with Crayola Scissors.
  3. 3. Use Crayola Model Magic® Fusion™ compound to build up the rocket around this armature. Layer the modeling material in a sleek shape designed for space travel.
  4. 4. In a contrasting color, form the rocket’s tip and tail. Roll out a small amount of compound and cut them with Crayola Scissors into thin, streamlined stabilizing fins.
  5. 5. Add an observation window and maybe some portholes along the side of the ship. Model Magic® Fusion™ dries to the touch overnight and dries completely in 2 to 3 days.

When & Where

"My children attached fishing line to their space ships so they look like they are flying toward outer space. They made a movie with them that’s reminiscent of Flash Gordon’s sci-fi adventures. "
- Peter J., father of 7- and 11-year-olds.

"We talk about the history of rockets to show how from weapons of warfare we now have a peaceful means of exploration."
- Malachy N., Saturday craft class leader.

Interesting Info

There is a sad Chinese folk tale about a man who wanted to fly so much that he attached dozens of fireworks to a contraption that he sat on. The rockets were not strong enough to send him into the air.
