Why

Kids draw a surprise behind each door of this calendar. Every day seems like Christmas as they get closer to the holiday.

Steps

  1. 1. Use Crayola® Total Tools™ Ultimate Cutter™, to trim off the flap of a recycled file folder.
  2. 2. Use Crayola Metallic FX Crayons to draw a Christmas tree, or some other holiday symbol, on the front. Draw 25 doors to represent the days in December leading up to and including Christmas.
  3. 3. Number the days and decorate the doors with Crayola Washable Markers.
  4. 4. Open the file folder. Use the Total Tools™ Ultimate Cutter™ to cut each door on three sides.
  5. 5. Glue a sheet of construction paper to the inside back of the folder with a Crayola Glue Stick. Glue the inside edges of the folder closed on the construction paper.
  6. 6. Inside each door, draw or write a holiday surprise, sentiment, or tradition. Close all the doors.

When & Where

"Our children specified activities including donating to charities. They captured the real meaning of the season."
- Rebecca M., mom of two kids ages 7 and 9.

"Each day we added to our calendars. We included Pearl Harbor Day, the first day of winter, Chanukah, and Kwanzaa, too."
- Omar Z., after-school club tutor.

Interesting Info

Advent is a traditional waiting period before Christmas. It comes from the latin word adventus which means coming.
