Bugs Every Which Way

Why

Ever examine tiny insects through a magnifying glass? Draw your favorite bugs from different angles. Quick, do it before they crawl away!

Steps

1. Watch your favorite bugs crawl. Look at them through a magnifying glass. Can you see their three body segments? Find out more about insect bodies.

2. With Crayola Erasable Colored Pencils, make a rubbing on a textured surface such as sandpaper or bricks. Erase at least three bigger-than-life bug-sized areas.

3. In each space, draw your insect with Crayola Erasable Colored Pencils from a different angle, such as from the top, bottom, or side. Color in your insects.

Safety Guidelines

Adult supervision is required for any arts & crafts project.

Adaptations

  • Label the insect’s parts and segments. Set up a display.
  • Research spiders to find out what the difference is between them and insects. Draw spiders from three angles, too.
  • Using Crayola Model Magic, form an insect showing its three distinct body segments. Label the parts with toothpick flags.
  • Assessment: Review drawings for accuracy and details.
