Telling My Tale

Why

What's so special about you? Use Crayola® Colored Pencils and Watercolors to display your talents and hobbies in words and pictures.

Steps

1. With Crayola Colored Pencils, write a list of activities that you do especially well. List the hobbies, topics, and ideas that you are most interested in, too.

2. On one side of a large sheet of paper, use Crayola Washable Markers to draw your profile (a side view of your face) as if you were speaking.

3. Design a large thought bubble coming from your mouth. Inside the thought bubble, draw pictures of your interests and skills.

4. Cover your work area with recycled newspaper. Use Crayola Watercolors and Watercolor Brushes to paint your picture. Mix colors to create tints and shades, intense and pale colors. Dry on a flat surface.

5. Add words to open areas using colored pencils. Introduce your tale to classmates.

Safety Guidelines

Adult supervision is required for any arts & crafts project. Observe children closely and intervene as necessary to prevent potential safety problems and ensure appropriate use of arts and crafts materials. Some craft items, particularly beads and buttons, are potential choking hazards for young children. Avoid use of such small parts with children younger than 3 years. Craft items such as scissors, push pins and chenille sticks may have sharp points or edges. Avoid use of materials with sharp points by children younger than 4 years. Read all manufacturers' safety warnings before using arts and craft supplies.

Crayola Washable Paints—Not for use as body/face paint.

Adaptations

  • Create conversational paintings. Draw two profiles facing each other on opposite sides of a large sheet of paper. Use two thought bubbles to communicate ideas that both people discuss.
  • Create a cartoon strip using multiple images. Design several frames.
  • Write your autobiography, a biography, or an imagined tale with thought bubbles.
