Turkey Tales
Invent imaginative Turkey Tales in a round-robin storytelling circle.
1. To begin your Turkey Tales, form a group of storytellers. Each person in your group cuts a long turkey feather from colored construction paper with Crayola® Scissors.
2. Storytellers sit in a circle. Write the first sentence of a story on your tail feathers with Crayola Metallic Colored Pencils.
3. Pass your feathers around, adding a new sentence to each feather, until all stories are complete. Go around the circle several times for extra feathery fun.
4. When you are finished, glue the ends of your feathers together with Crayola Glue Sticks. Display stories for classmates to read.
Adult supervision is required for any arts & crafts project. Observe children closely and intervene as necessary to prevent potential safety problems and ensure appropriate use of arts and crafts materials. Some craft items, particularly beads and buttons, are potential choking hazards for young children. Avoid use of such small parts with children younger than 3 years. Craft items such as scissors, push pins and chenille sticks may have sharp points or edges. Avoid use of materials with sharp points by children younger than 4 years. Read all manufacturers' safety warnings before using arts and craft supplies.
Scissors—ATTENTION: The cutting edges of scissors are sharp and care should be taken whenever cutting or handling. Blunt-tip scissors should be used only by children 4 years and older. Pointed-tip scissors should be used only by children 6 years and older.
- Early writers might write a round-robin story with a small group. Children write just one story on one feather. An older child or teacher could record their words.
- Older and younger children or children with disabilities can work in teams. One child dictates the story and the older child writes it on a feather.
- Write a creative story about a turkey who escaped a holiday dinner or has other exciting adventures.
