Steps

  • Step 1

Field trips can provide opportunities that many students might not otherwise have outside of the classroom. They are great ways to enhance the curriculum, and they can also teach students about how to act responsibly in public. It is important to reinforce what was learned on a field trip. One way is through class discussion. Another would be to make a KWL chart, which lists three columns: one represents what students KNOW, the second represents what they WANT to know, and the third represents what they LEARNed.  When students illustrate their memories, it solidifies their learning.

  • Step 2

Reinforce the field trip's learning experiences by asking students to create an illustration that documents highlights they remember from the trip. Ask them to make their sketch informative, focusing on knowledge they gained during the trip.  They could include the location of the trip, some facts they learned, illustrations of some of the memorable sights, and they might include a KWL chart.

  • Step 3

Have students present their field trip art and have a class discussion about what stood out for each student as they reflect on this outing.
