Draw Inside the Human Body

Learn about body systems and demonstrate your knowledge on a life-sized chalk drawing.

Lesson Plan

Supplies Needed

Gather all the supplies needed to bring your craft ideas to life! From paints and markers to glue and scissors, our crafts section has everything to spark creativity and make every project truly special.

Steps

  • Step 1

Have the class research the basics of anatomy and physiology. Identify some parts of the body such as the bigger bones such as ribs, sternum, femur, and some organs such as heart, lungs, kidneys, etc. Have students learn about their functions and where they are in the body.

  • Step 2

Find a suitable outdoor space such as the playground where students can lie down safely and draw with sidewalk chalk.

  • Step 3

Have students work in pairs to take turns outlining each other and then drawing in the parts of the body they have learned about.

Standards

SCI: Design pictorial or graphic representations/models that are useful in communicating ideas.

SCI: Convey designs through sketches, detailed drawings, or physical models to communicate ideas and solutions.

Adaptations

Invite a nurse or other health professional to talk about the basics of anatomy and physiology and ways to promote health.

Have each student pick an area of the body to research more fully and then have them present what they learned to the class. For example, a student might pick the circulatory system and talk about the function of all the different blood cells.
