Lesson Plans

Spark creativity with Crayola lesson plans. With hundreds of activities, the learning possibilities are endless.

From This to That

How does wool become a sweater? How does wheat become bread? Students will learn about the process involved in creating a product and illustrate it in a pictorial chart.

Lesson Plan

Supplies Needed

Gather all the supplies needed to bring your craft ideas to life! From paints and markers to glue and scissors, our crafts section has everything to spark creativity and make every project truly special.

Steps

  • Step 1

Ask students to think about the basic activities in their daily routine. Perhaps they get up, put on a sweater, eat a piece of toast, then get on the school bus. But have they ever wondered about the many steps it took to turn sheep's wool into a sweater, wheat into bread, or extracted ore into a vehicle? Have students explore these or other processes used to create everyday items in their life. Ask them to investigate the resources needed as well as the steps and the length of time it generally takes.

  • Step 2

Have them communicate their findings in an illustrated chart that shows the process from start to finish.

  • Step 3

Ask students to present their illustrated charts as they describe the process they depicted.

Standards

SCI: Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information based on evidence.

SCI: Ask questions that arise from careful observation of phenomena, models, or unexpected results to clarify and/or seek additional information.

Adaptations

Creating something does not always apply to a tangible object. Have students explore the steps in the creative process, from the evolution of an idea to bringing an idea to life.

Have students explore the concept of upcycling, which is finding new uses for items that have already created.
