Lesson Plan

Supplies Needed

Gather all the supplies needed to bring your craft ideas to life! From paints and markers to glue and scissors, our crafts section has everything to spark creativity and make every project truly special.

Steps

  • Step 1

The beginning of the school year is a great time to meet new friends and reacquaint with old ones. This is a fun and creative way for students to get to know others and describe themselves to their peers. Getting to know and understand one another fosters a welcoming climate and strong student bonds, creates an atmosphere of understanding, and enhances academic performance.

  • Step 2

Have students design and create a piece of art to display their name. They can use any art technique they like. Some might want to sculpt the letters of their name out of Model Magic, while others might want to illustrate their names on paper. They can add textures to their drawings or sculptures to enhance the visual appeal.

  • Step 3

When their art is complete, have each student present their name plate and introduce themselves by talking about things that are important about them.

Standards

SEL: Self-Awareness: Identify personal, cultural, and linguistic assets as well as personal interests that lead to a sense of purpose.

SEL: Social Awareness: Understand the perspectives of and strengths of others.

Adaptations

Have each student create a "Book About Me." They can illustrate themselves and write their name on the cover, then include a couple of pages that list and illustrate things they want others to know about them.

Have students form pairs, and have each student interview the other. Than ask the pairs to introduce each other to the class.
