Lesson Plan

Supplies Needed

Gather all the supplies needed to bring your craft ideas to life! From paints and markers to glue and scissors, our crafts section has everything to spark creativity and make every project truly special.

Steps

  • Step 1

Accepting a compliment can sometimes be difficult. It might feel awkward and we might try to downplay it. Perhaps it is because we are taught to be humble. But accepting a compliment is beneficial for both the receiver and the giver. Have students recall complimentary words that people have used to describe them. Ask them to list some of them.

  • Step 2

Have students sculpt a version of themselves out of Model Magic. Then have them write several of the complimentary words they've heard on small slips of paper and apply them to the sculpture.

  • Step 3

Ask students to present their sculptures to the class and share memories of receiving the compliments they chose and how it felt to receive them.

Standards

SEL: Understand one’s own emotions, thoughts, and values and how they influence behavior across contexts.

SEL: Self-Awareness: Recognize one’s strengths, emotions, and limitations with a well-grounded sense of confidence and purpose.

Adaptations

Have students form pairs and ask each to  "introduce" each other to the class using complimentary words to describe them.

Have a discussion about ways to accept a compliment graciously. For example, say "thank you," be aware of body language, don't downplay the compliment (which could come across as insulting to the giver since it negates their opinion), etc.
