Get Fit With a Friend

Exercising is more fun with a friend. Students will collaborate to design a fitness routine.

Lesson Plan

Supplies Needed

Gather all the supplies needed to bring your craft ideas to life! From paints and markers to glue and scissors, our crafts section has everything to spark creativity and make every project truly special.

Steps

  • Step 1

Exercising is beneficial to our physical and mental health. It can build strong muscles and endurance, strengthen bones, reduce the risk of chronic diseases, improve memory and attention, and reduce the risk of depression, to name a few. Have students discuss their favorite physical activities.

  • Step 2

Ask students to choose a partner to work with. Have the pair design a workout routine that they will follow together. Then ask them to create visuals to inspire them. They might write and illustrate each exercise on an index card and display reminders or benefits of physical exercise that they display in the classroom. They can glue craft sticks to their index card signs and then insert the stick's ends into stands made out of Model Magic.

  • Step 3

Encourage each pair to perform their fitness routine together and focus on their heart rate and breathing as they exercise.

Standards

SEL: Self-Management: Manage one’s emotions, thoughts, and behaviors effectively in different situations and to achieve goals and aspirations.

SEL: Responsible Decision-Making: Make caring and constructive choices about personal behavior and social interactions across diverse situations, using critical thinking skills.

Adaptations

Invite the school's physical education teacher or a local fitness expert to speak to the class about the benefits of regular exercise. Have students prepare questions in advance of the visit.

Have students set up a Fitness Day for the school or prepare an obstacle course or fitness routine for Field Day so other students and participate in the exercises they planned.
