Animals at Work

What if animals could have jobs just like people? Create a fanciful story and a stylish outfit for an animal going to work.

Lesson Plan

Supplies Needed

Gather all the supplies needed to bring your craft ideas to life! From paints and markers to glue and scissors, our crafts section has everything to spark creativity and make every project truly special.

Steps

  • Step 1

Ask students to think about how it might feel to go to school with animals and what jobs they might have when they graduate. What would each animal be? Perhaps a bird would be a pilot, a cat might be an acrobat, or a fish might be an underwater explorer.

  • Step 2

Have students write a story about an animal who goes to work. Ask them to illustrate the animal dressed for success at their job.

  • Step 3

Have students present their stories to the class and talk about why they chose the job for their animal.

Standards

LA: Add drawings or other visual displays to written text to clarify ideas, thoughts, and feelings.

LA: Develop real and imagined narratives.

Adaptations

Ask students to think about jobs they'd like to have in the future. Have them write a paragraph or two about why the job appeals to them and what steps they will have to take to prepare for it.

Have students create a stick puppet of their animal by drawing it on paper, cutting it out, and gluing it to a craft stick. Then have them form small groups and create and perform a puppet show with their animals.
