Box Bouquet

Learn about flowers and plants and create a beautiful floral arrangement collage.

Lesson Plan

Supplies Needed

Gather all the supplies needed to bring your craft ideas to life! From paints and markers to glue and scissors, our crafts section has everything to spark creativity and make every project truly special.

Steps

  • Step 1

Discuss the parts of a plant with the class - roots, stems, leaves, flowers, etc. - and their functions. Talk about seeds and bulbs and the stages of plant growth. Ask students to choose a flower or flowers they'd like to depict in a flower box collage.

  • Step 2

Have students use chalk to create a background. Then have them draw a box on another piece of construction paper, decorate it with chalk, then cut it out, and glue it to the background sheet.

  • Step 3

Students can then use craft items such as tissue paper, raffia, simulated moss, or other recycled materials to create flowers and decorate the box. When the project is complete they can choose to present it to someone to spread floral cheer.

Standards

SCI: Ask questions about the features of phenomena observed and conclusions drawn from investigations or models.

SCI: Describe what living organisms have in common (eating, breathing, growing, and reproducing) and distinguish them from non-living things.

Adaptations

Ask students to explore the possibility of planting a garden - either indoors or outdoors - at the school. Ask them to design the space and think about what they would like to grow.

Invite a local botanist or landscape architect to visit and discuss the scope of their profession.
