Curiosity Ignites Imagination

What's in outer space? What if dinosaurs still existed? Why isn't the sun green? Children will put their imagination in action and paint a fun scene.

Lesson Plan

Supplies Needed

Gather all the supplies needed to bring your craft ideas to life! From paints and markers to glue and scissors, our crafts section has everything to spark creativity and make every project truly special.

Steps

  • Step 1

Ask children what ignites their sense of curiosity and wonder. What questions do they have about various topics, such as outer space, the sun, animals, oceans, or flowers? What subjects would they like to know more about? Ask them to think of "what if..." questions, such as "What if dinosaurs still lived on Earth?" or "What if animals could talk to us?"

  • Step 2

Have children paint an imaginative scene based on one of the areas that sparked their curiosity.

  • Step 3

When the paintings are dry, have children present them to the class and tell as story about the scene they painted.

Standards

LA: Develop real and imagined narratives.

LA: Speak audibly and express thoughts, feelings, and ideas clearly.

Adaptations

Have children take part in an improv scene. One child starts the scene with a line such as, "I wonder what would happen if people could fly" and the next child might say, "I would soar above the clouds" and the next might add, "I would look down at my friends and they would be the size of ants."

Read a book such as "The Bear and the Piano" by David Litchfield, "There's a Tiger in the Garden" by Lizzy Stewart, or any other fanciful story. Discuss how the imagination can open up magical worlds.
