Steps

  • Step 1

What community helpers do you admire? Firefighters, police officers, utility and construction workers, and mail carriers? Most community helpers wear hats. Where you live, what colors do they wear? Are there badges on their hats? These directions are for a firefighter hat. You can change them to make whatever hat you choose.

  • Step 2

Cut most of the way around the inner circle of a paper plate with Crayola® Scissors. Cut the hole in a size to fit on your head. Fold the circle up for the front of your hat.

  • Step 3

Cut out the center of another paper plate. Cut part of this circle in the shape of a front insignia or badge. The rest of the cut pieces could extend the brim and back.

  • Step 4

Use Crayola Metallic FX Crayons to decorate insignias, badges, buckles, or other shiny parts of your hat. Color the rest of the hat with Crayola Crayons and your markers.

  • Step 5

Decorate your paper. Use Crayola Gel Markers to decorate your Egyptian Papyrus Paper. Write your name in hieroglyphics (the ancient Egyptian form of writing). Draw the Great Sphinx (an ancient Egyptian monument that looks like a king with a lion’s body). Or design a treasure map and set up a treasure hunt with your friends. Have fun!
