Paper Pinwheel

A summer favorite! Learn how to make a pinwheel out of patterned cardstock, then let the DIY Paper Pinwheel spin around & round.

Supplies Needed

Gather all the supplies needed to bring your craft ideas to life! ...

  • Construction Paper
  • Brass Paper Fastener(s)
  • Hole Punch
  • Ruler
  • Straw(s)

Steps

  • Step 1

    Pick your favorite pattern of cardstock.

  • Step 2

    Cut out a 6” x 6” section of cardstock.

  • Step 3

    On the non-patterned side, create designs with stampers.

  • Step 4

    With the stamped side facing up, fold the bottom right corner to the top left corner, creating a triangle. Unfold.

  • Step 5

    Fold the bottom left corner to the top right corner, creating a triangle. Unfold.

  • Step 6

    Cut a 3” slit from each corner toward the center.

  • Step 7

    Punch a hole in the corner to the right of the first slit.

  • Step 8

    Rotate counterclockwise and repeat until each side has a hole punch.

  • Step 9

    Use brass fastener to create a small slit in center of cardstock.

  • Step 10

    Fold punched corners to the center so holes overlap.

  • Step 11

    Hold in place and insert brass fastener, flattening legs to hold pinwheel in place.

  • Step 12

    Flatten the end of straw and punch hole 1/2” from the end.

  • Step 13

    Place fastener through the hole in the straw and flatten legs to hold in place.

  • Step 14

    Blow pinwheel & watch it spin!

  • Keep brass fastener slightly loose to help pinwheel spin faster. 

  • Create a patriotic flare for the 4th by using red, white and blue colored paper. Use other color combinations to craft themed holiday creations. The possibilities are endless!
