Raindrop Suncatcher

Ring in spring one drop at a time! Embrace April showers (before May flowers!) with this crayon melting suncatcher craft.

Supplies Needed

Gather all the supplies needed to bring your craft ideas to life! ...

  • Crayons
  • Clear Tape
  • Crayon Sharpener
  • Duct Tape
  • Hair Dryer
  • String
  • Wax Paper
  • Wooden Dowel

Steps

  • Step 1

    Unwrap 4–6 crayons, then use crayon sharpener to create shavings.

  • Step 2

    Lay piece of wax paper on protected surface. Evenly sprinkle shavings onto wax paper.

  • Step 3

    Place slightly larger piece of wax paper overtop. Seal edges with duct tape.

  • Step 4

    With the help of an adult, use hair dryer to melt shavings. Let cool 15 min.

  • Step 5

    Cut raindrop shapes out of wax paper.

  • Step 6

    Tie piece of string onto wooden dowel.

  • Step 7

    Tape raindrops to string.

  • Step 8

    Repeat steps 6–7 until suncatcher is complete.

  • Step 9

    Hang and enjoy catching a sun shower!

  • This project uses a hair dryer. Adult assistance required.

  • Experiment with shades of blue for your raindrops!

  • Try taping your raindrops so they hang at different heights.

  • If needed, trim any excess string from your suncatcher.
