On October 27, 1858, Theodore Roosevelt, the 26th president of the United States, was born in New York, New York. He liked adventure. Roosevelt boxed, hunted, explored, climbed mountains, rowed, and wrestled. Roosevelt served in office from 1901 to 1909, and his nickname was Teddy. Teddy bears became popular because of him. He loved to read adventure stories, and he wished that he would be like the characters in his books. He died in Oyster Bay, New York, on January 6, 1919.
