Supplies Needed

Gather all the supplies needed to bring your craft ideas to life! From paints and markers to glue and scissors, our crafts section has everything to spark creativity and make every project truly special.

Steps

  • Step 1

Read a book such as "Eating the Alphabet: Fruits & Vegetables from A to Z" by Lois Ehlert or "Spring is for Strawberries" by Katherine Pryor and Polina Gortman. Ask children to name the fruits and vegetables they enjoy eating. Explain that eating fruits and vegetables provides many nutritional benefits and helps promote health.

  • Step 2

Have children draw several pictures of vegetables and fruit. Then have them cut or tear the images out and place them all on a table.

  • Step 3

Have the children pretend to shop from the collection of fruits and vegetables that they and classmates made. Ask them to share why they chose certain these. Do they enjoy eating this or is it new food they have not tried yet? Do they like the color? Are they partial to the ones they made?

  • Step 4

End the lesson by having students describe the flavors of familiar fruits and vegetables. Have a class discussion about the nutritional benefits and why it is recommended to include these foods as part of a balanced meal.
