• Can Crayola Model Magic pieces be sealed?

  Yes, Crayola® Model Magic® pieces can be sealed once they are completely dry. The drying time for Model Magic generally takes 24 hours to dry to the touch and 72 hours (about 3 days) to dry completely.

  
  

  How to seal dried Model Magic sculptures:

  
  

  1. Apply a thin layer of acrylic varnish to a test sample to check for compatibility before using it on the finished piece.
  2. If the varnish is compatible, apply an even coat over the entire sculpture.
  3. Allow the varnish to dry completely before handling your masterpiece.

  Important Note: Sealing your work will not make it waterproof. Exposure to water and outdoor elements will negatively affect Model Magic, so it is best to display your sculpture indoors.

  Dried and sealed pieces made with Crayola® Air-Dry Clay are not waterproof, so we recommend displaying finished pieces indoors.

• Who owns the Dream-Makers artwork? Do you display or return the artwork?

  What was the Crayola Dream Makers program?

  In 1984, Crayola launched the Dream Makers program, a nationwide initiative recognizing the critical role of art and creativity in children's development. For decades, this program empowered art and classroom teachers to provide hands-on art experiences for students from kindergarten through 12th grade. Through the program's success, Crayola became caretaker to one of the world's largest children's art collections.

  
  

  Who owns the Dream Makers artwork?

  Crayola owns all Dream Makers artwork following the closure of the program in 2013. Ownership was transferred from the artists after receiving parental consent to archive and maintain the pieces.

  
  

  Do you display or return the artwork?

  The artwork was not returned, but we take pride in displaying it. Selected pieces are showcased in Crayola's corporate offices, various local and global venues, and have also been displayed at the Department of Education in Washington, D.C. Additionally, artwork has been donated to children's hospitals and art education advocates across the nation.

  
  

  What's new with the Dream Makers artwork in 2024?

  Crayola is working to reconnect Dream-Maker's artworks, currently archived at our facility in Easton, Pennsylvania, to their original creators. Learn more about our Campaign for Creativity.

• How do I adhere or glue decorative pieces to Air-Dry Clay?

  Depending on the size of the decorative objects, we recommend using white school glue, Crazy Glue, or Gorilla Glue to adhere objects like stones, beads, glitter, moss, etc., to thoroughly dry Crayola® Air-Dry Clay pieces.

  
  

  To attach a piece of Air-Dry Clay to wood, an adult should roughly sand the wood where the clay is to be placed. Once the clay has thoroughly dried, use a small amount of white school glue, Crazy Glue, or Gorilla Glue to adhere the Air-Dry Clay to the wood surface.

• Is it safe to use Crayola art materials to make lipstick, eyeliner, and other makeup?

  As a manufacturer of children's products, safety is our top priority at Crayola. Although our arts and crafts products are nontoxic, we do not recommend using them to make eyeliner, lipstick, or other makeup, and strongly discourage using them this way. Crayola art products were never intended to be used on the skin or face in this manner.

  
  

  Makeup goes through specific and rigorous testing since it is intended to be used on the skin. Because they were never meant to be used as makeup, our colored pencils, crayons, markers, paint, and all art products have not been tested in the same way a makeup product is and should not be used as a cosmetic. Crayola art materials are not designed, tested, or approved for this purpose.
