Benjamin Banneker

Benjamin Banneker (November 9, 1731- October 19,1806) was a free African-American almanac author, landowner and farmer. He is most known for assisting Major Andrew Ellicott in surveying the land and establishing the borders of what would eventually become Washington, D.C.
