Over the Canyon Edge

Over the Canyon Edge CIY Poster Frame

Imagine standing along the magnificent Grand Canyon's rim at sunset! Capture the glorious changing colors of one of the natural wonders of the world.

Steps:

1

1 The Grand Canyon of the United States cuts across Arizona. Find pictures of the canyon taken at different times of day. The luminous light can make the canyon's steep sides look pale, dark, or fiery red. These are some ideas for making a diorama of the magnificent scene from the Watchtower at Desert View.

2

2 On construction paper, use Crayola® Erasable Colored Pencils to sketch the Grand Canyon's mesas, cliffs, walls, and valley. Use pictures to help you recreate details, such as jagged rock formations, scrub pine, and Colorado River.

3

3 Color in the scene with Crayola Multicultural Markers and Washable Markers. Show rocky layers, the river, and desert scrub. Are there storm clouds in the distance or bright blue sky? At sunset, the canyon colors seem to glow!

4

4 Cut off three sides of a shoe box with Crayola Scissors to hold your diorama. With Crayola School Glue, attach your canyon background to the box. Air dry.

5

5 To create the canyon's Watchtower, design a brick pattern on construction paper. Cut and roll the paper into the tower and observation deck. Glue edges. Air dry.

6

6 Cut small white paper rectangles for windows. Glue on the Watchtower. Attach the Watchtower to the box. Air dry.
